Featured Event Miami Lighthouse Presents Music Under the Stars Legislators, school officials, and community leaders enjoyed the sixth annual Music Under the Stars: Bon Appétit Miami celebration on May 22. Hosted by the Miami Lighthouse for the Blind, the event benefited the Heiken Children’s Vision Program, which has provided free eye examinations for more than 75,000 children in need. “Many children who fail their school vision screening have no resources for eye care,” said Virginia Jacko, President/CEO of the Miami Lighthouse for the Blind. “Because of the Heiken program, 83 percent of the children given comprehensive eye exams received prescription glasses at no cost to their families. Attendees enjoyed musical performances by Miami Lighthouse Better Chance Music Production Program ™ students, instructors and special guests, food from Miami-area restaurants, beverages by Miami Club Rum and El Carajo International Tapas & Wine, and a silent auction. David Bernard, CBS-4 chief meteorologist, emceed the event. Honorees included Florida State Rep. Jose Felix Diaz, Public Schools Administrative Director Ava Goldman, and Consultant Robert M. Levy.
