Miami Happenings Dance, Opera & Theater May 3–5 Miami City Ballet presents Program IV Dances at a Gathering (Robbins/Chopin) 10 dancers, live Chopin piano music, endlessly beautiful and original invention — a celebration of dance, dancers ... and life. Slaughter on Tenth Avenue (Balanchine/Rodgers) Taken from the hit Rodgers and Hart Broadway musical On Your Toes, this is a story of gangsters, strippers and an attempted murder plot revealed just in time.  Fast-paced, with tap dancing and talking parts, this is wildly entertaining dance. www.arshtcenter.org May 7–12 Broadway in Miami: Memphis Inspired by actual events, MEMPHIS is about a white radio DJ who wants to change the world and a black club singer who is ready for her big break. Come along on their incredible journey to the ends of the airwaves — filled with laughter, soaring emotion and roof-raising rock ‘n’ roll. www.arshtcenter.org June 6–30 Sumer Shorts 2013 Summer Shorts is America’s Short Play Festival, with an incredible line-up of scripts penned by the country’s best writers — including City Theatre National Short Play Competition winners. www.arshtcenter.org June 1–30 8cho The Ziff Ballet Opera House will be transformed into a “sexy, exhilarating, gravity-defying world” (Ottawa Citizen) by more than a dozen aerialists, dancers and musicians who perform entire routines in the air.
